Tuberous breast is a condition linked to a failure of the mammary gland to develop during puberty.

The condition is also called tuberous breasts or breast hypoplasia.

a typical tuberous breast

Often the true prevalence of this condition is underestimated, because many women do not want to go to the plastic surgeon.

The solution to this condition is surgery. Let’s see together what it is.

The tuberous breast has different facets and shades. For this reason, a correct diagnosis is not so simple and requires an experienced plastic surgeon.

Tuberous memmella is characterized by:

-failure to develop the mammary gland
-breast asymmetry
-tubular / oval aspect
-larger areola

The causes seem to be due to a lack of development of the pectoral belt. In this way the complex of the gland and areola herniated from this cylinder, giving the cylindrical shape, like a tuber of the breast. Often there is also a fall of the mammary gland, the so-called mammary ptosis

surgical correction of the tuberous breast

The only possible treatment is breast surgery. we need to expand the mammary gland, and increase its volume. usaully the use of breast implants is often indicated. Of course, each case must be carefully analyzed. In fact, during the visit we consider the presence of asymmetry and we understand if the problem affects only one or both breasts.

We plan the surgery with two accurate pre-operative visits at our clinic.

we discuss and plan the case before performing the surgery

at what age to operate the tuberous breast?

Often the patient who comes to our clinic for this defect is young. For this, we evaluate the age and stage of development and understand if there is an indication to perform the intervention.

Usually yes, because this type of condition shows up when the mammary gland develops.

how many interventions are needed?

Sometimes we can correct the tubular sinus defect in one surgery.

At other times, corrective surgery may be necessary, especially in cases where the tuberous breast is very evident.

how much is the recovery after the surgery?

After the surgery, sports activities will be limited for some time. It is normal to expect low to moderate swelling in 2/3 weeks after surgery.

This swelling will gradually decrease.

To conclude The most important thing in correcting the tuberous breast defect is to face the surgery with the right preparation, analyzing case by case to understand the most suitable type of surgery
