Rinofiller
The rhinofiller is the aesthetic medicine procedure that allows you to temporarily correct some deformities of the nose.
The nose is a central structure in the face. Anatomically it is composed of a support structure (cartilages and nasal bones), an external skin cover and an internal lining. The purpose of the aesthetic rhinoplasty surgery is to obtain a good result, modifying the structural components of the nose, minimizing the operating risks, with the aim of giving the nose a natural and proportionate appearance to the rest of the face and not mutable in time.

To try to achieve this goal, it is necessary to master the knowledge of several surgical techniques, which make aesthetic rhinoplasty the main intervention of plastic surgery. Often the patient’s fear of the operating room can be a brake for the patient, both as regards the post-operative course and for other assessments such as the cost or the fear of upsetting the face too much.
What is the rhinofiller?
The rhinofiller is an aesthetic medicine treatment that consists of the injection of hyaluronic acid into the nose. To obviate the patient’s justified or unjustified fears about rhinoplasty surgery, the rhinofiller can be proposed: it involves performing small injections at the level of the nose, in order to correct small deformities, especially at the level of the back and root of the nose.

How is it done?
The rhinofiller is a procedure that we perform in our clinic: it is sufficient to place an anesthetic cream for about 15 minutes on the surface of the nose and wait for it to act. The patient is made to lie on the bed with the headboard tilted at 45 °, the surface is disinfected and injections are performed. Hyaluronic acid fillers (we usually prefer Allergan products) are injected into the areas that need to be treated.
Is it a painful treatment?
It is not a painful treatment: it is sufficient to place an anesthetic ointment. The discomfort is bearable by the vast majority of patients. No local anesthetic infiltrations or sedation are necessary. After performing the treatment, the patient will keep topical ice over the nose for about 20 minutes: the nose, in fact, like the mouth, is an area full of blood vessels. To avoid the formation of hematomas, a vasoconstriction is therefore useful, obtainable with a simple ice glove.

Which areas can be treated?
The rhinofiller is a very effective procedure to correct defects of the back of the nose (it can hide the hump, the so-called osteocartilaginous hump) and the root of the nose (ie the area near the eyebrows). It can also improve some parts of the nasal tip. However, it should be emphasized that some defects, such as a wide tip (so-called globose tip) and drooping, are difficult to correct with the rhinofiller, requiring correction with a surgical rhinoplasty.
What are the benefits?
- it is a much less painful treatment than rhinoplasty
- it is a resorbable treatment: it can predict what the nose will look like after a rhinoplasty and therefore lead the patient to surgery with less fear and more awareness of the achievable result
- it is an outpatient treatment: it takes about 15/20 minutes (including the application of the anesthetic ointment) after which the patient can leave the surgery without chalk or obvious splint
- it is a cheaper treatment
What are the disadvantages?
- The result lasts from 6/7 months: hyaluronic acid is a substance that (fortunately) is completely reabsorbed in six months).
- Consequently, if the patient has excessive fear of surgery and is motivated, she can return to the clinic twice a year to perform
- The procedure difficulty in correcting toe defects: large, globose and drooping tips are difficult to correct except through a traditional rhinoplasty presence of small post-treatment hematomas: they are however much less evident than the hematomas present after a traditional rhinoplasty,
- Disappear in 4/5 days and are easily hidden with foundation.
The rhinofiller is a safe procedure, but it must be performed by a professional plastic surgeon who has knowledge of the anatomy of the nose and experience in rhinoplasty, in order to be able to adequately advise the patient and clearly describe during the first visit if the defect for which the patient comes to our attention is correctable through this outpatient procedure, or if a surgical approach is required, slightly more invasive but certainly more stable over time. In fact, a few years ago the concept of structured rhinoplasty has emerged: the nose after a rhinoplasty must be stronger and more stable to guarantee an unmotivable result over time.
This is achieved through suturing techniques and the use of cartilage grafts.
