Bichectomy

What is bichectomy?

Bichectomy is a surgical procedure that removes or dries a facial structure known as a Bichat fat pad, which in some cases can make a thin person appear overweight or simply not conform to body structure. Most people perceive a thin V-shaped face as attractive.

What improves?

On the other hand, rounded cheeks, often called “chubby cheeks,” can create a childish appearance and make otherwise thin people look overweight. Buccal fat removal surgery is a highly personalized procedure.

Contouring of the face is important for the overall appearance of the face. While it is important to maintain a good amount of facial fat to maintain a youthful appearance, excess buccal fat can lead to a rounded “moon face” that hides the cheekbone and the jaw line of course. A buccal fat removal procedure conservatively removes non-essential fat in the cheek area, streamlining this area and resulting in a slimmer appearance.

What result does it give?

Bichectomy, also known as buccal fat removal, aims to slim a person’s face and remove excess fatty tissue. In this procedure, we remove the fat from the inside of the cheeks, thereby emphasizing and accentuating the cheekbones. The result is a leaner, younger-looking face.

Who is a candidate for bichectomy?

If a patient comes to our clinic because he is dissatisfied with the proportions of his face, complaining of round cheeks that make his face look chubby, a bichectomy is the right procedure to remove excess fat from the cheeks, contour the face and accentuate the features.bichectomy is the procedure that allows you to redefine the contour of the cheekbones and cheeks.

What is the course after the procedure?

The day after buccal fat removal, we recommend a semi-liquid diet. This is because a bichectomy involves placing small sutures in the mouth Swelling and bruising, which can develop for about 2-3 weeks after the procedure, can be treated with a cold pack. However, patients are presentable and able to meet their social obligations immediately after a bichectomy. Final treatment results will be visible 3 weeks after the procedure.

What are the advantages?

One of the advantages of having the buccal fat removed is that there are no external incisions. Through an internal access the buccal fat is carefully removed. The exact amount of buccal fat removed can be done in such a way that both sides of the face have the same amount of fat removed, to ensure a symmetrical and balanced appearance.

Is it a painful surgery?

Removal of the buccal fat pad is not painful. It is a minor procedure performed under local anesthesia. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes.

What are the recovery times?

The recovery time after bichectomy is quite quick. After the procedure, that we usually perform in our office, there are few spots inside the mouth and the patient will have to follow a soft diet for 3 or 4 days.

What are the risks involved in removing buccal fat?

As a general rule, bichectomy is considered low risk due to the low incidence of complications. It goes without saying, however, that the surgeon performing the treatment must have a thorough understanding of the patient’s anatomy. Only then can they achieve satisfactory results. If the treatment is performed by a surgeon without the necessary experience, it can cause tissue trauma and bleeding.
