rhinoplasty before and after

we talk about it with Dr. Cesare Cappellina, plastic surgeon of the Clinica Cappellina in Vicenza

Rhinoplasty before and after:

is the result of rhinoplasty immediate? Yes and no. Let’s understand why together.

Rhinoplasty is an operation that is performed in day hospital, at the Cappellina Clinic

Two visits are necessary before the operation: In the first visit, the nose defect is studied together with the patient, the objectives and possible results are discussed.

We explain the type of rhinoplasty indicated (closed technique or open technique, i.e. with a small scar placed in the skin between the two nostrils, the so-called columella)

We describe the typical day of the operation, from the moment the patient arrives at the clinic in her room, to the moment in the operating room, up to the time of discharge on the same day

Is it a painful surgery?

Rhinoplasty is not a painful operation: certainly after the operation we set up an adequate painkiller therapy, but it is usually well tolerated by patients and allows discharge in the same afternoon

What kind of anesthesia is used?

We typically perform rhinoplasty under general anesthesia. Selected cases (such as the correction of a toe) can be performed under local anesthesia, in the operating room, in the presence of the anesthetist. We analyze each case with our anesthetist before proceeding with the planning of the intervention

Rhinoplasty before and after: what changes over time?

in the days and weeks following the surgery the dressings change:

On the day of surgery, the patient remains in the clinic with chalk, swabs in the nostrils and ice over the head.

one of the hospital rooms in the clinic

Before discharging the patient we remove the swabs from the nose (Sometimes we prefer to keep the swabs until the next day)

For a week the patient remains with the chalk on him: this allows the tissues to heal in a suitable and protected manner.

we keep the chalk for 7 days after surgery

After a week we remove the chalk in the clinic: in this way the patient can see the result in person, even if usually during the surgery, just before placing the chalk, we take photos and a small video, to immediately show the result. Thus the patient lives the week with the chalk more calmly

After a week the patient wears only paper plasters, to be kept day and night, for another 7 days

To conclude, rhinoplasty is an operation that we perform in day hospital at the Cappellina clinic, that is, with arrival early in the morning and discharge in the afternoon / evening.

It should be planned carefully, with blood tests and an EKG
