Breast augmentation post care: how long should a patient rest after surgery?
what can you do in the first few days?
Dr Cesare Cappellina, plastic surgeon from Vicenza, replies

breast augmentation post care is important after the surgery. It is good to explain to the patient what she can do and which movements are to be avoided:

The breast augmentation post care provides an average recovery of about 5/6 days.

containment bra is indicated for about 40 days after surgery

influencing factors are:

positioning of the prosthesis (the submuscular housing is usually a little more delicate than the subglandular plane)

– the patient’s personal pain threshold

– type of work of the patient (physical-manual work such as worker-barista-nurse provides for a more careful recovery

– type of musculature (a patient with more represented pectoral muscles, such as a sportswoman, may be more sensitive in the post-operative period)

When we perform breast augmentation surgery, recovery is a key moment to ensure the success of the operation. For this reason, on the day of the surgery at the Cappellina Clinic, once the patient is lying in bed, ready to perform the first movements, we attach great importance to explaining which movements are allowed and above all how to perform them:

already during the hospitalization (we perform this surgery he comes in day hospital, with arrival in the morning and discharge in the evening) we explain to the patient how to get out of bed: it is important not to lift the arms, keep the arms adducted along the body (imagining that you have two books under the armpits) and use your abs and legs to lift yourself up

at the end of the surgery we place compression sheaths which remain for three days

For breast augmentation post care the optimal  consists of:

– do not drive but be accompanied to the first two dressings (which are after about 3 days, where we remove the tensoplast elastic compression sheath and after 7 days, when we remove the sutures)

– have a person at home to take care of the patient, to get dressed, etc.)

– do not lift weights for at least 15/20 days

-no housework

During the two visits that precede the intervention, we explain the importance of carving out at least 5/6 days from work, precisely to be able to manage these days in serenity and receive a minimum of assistance, which however is decisive.

The return to sport:

We recommend two months of recovery from sports activities: we will stop jogging for two months, gym activities (avoiding training the arms and the upper part for at least 40 days) always witha a sport bra

In fact, we want to avoid the creation of swelling in a delicate moment in which the tissues are settling.

In conclusion, the augmentation surgery is not considered painful. However, we will prepare  at our clinic, and understand it in its delicacy, in order to face the delicate post-operative recovery with serenity and the right rest.
