BREAST SURGERY

Breast augmentation:

What is that?

Breast augmentation is the surgery that allows to increase breast volume, both when it has never fully developed, and when it has lost tone and volume following weight loss or breastfeeding. It has recently been calculated that there are about 35 million breast implant patients in the world.
It involves the implant of prostheses,or implants, placed according to the case under the mammary gland or more deeply, under the pectoral muscle.

Will there be scars?

Yes. Breast implants can be inserted through three access routes which are the armpit, the periareolar (around the lower or upper hemi-circumference of the mammary areola) and the submammary one (at the level of the submammary furrow)
The choice of the incision site is agreed before the surgery and depends on the local anatomical situation (size of the areola, definition of the submammary frurrow), on the type and size of the chosen prostheses, on the preferences of the surgeon and of the patient.
After the definitive maturation of the scars (which takes place in a few months) the scar appears as a thin white line, similar to a stretch mark.

How long does the surgery last? What kind of anesthesia is used?

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It lasts approximately 90/120 minutes. We usually perform this surgery in our clinic in Dueville Vicenza

After the surgery, the patient wakes up with compressive dressings and sometimes, if we reckon it necessary, with drains at the level of the armpits.

What are the recovery times?

Recovery times from a breast augmentation surgery are about 3/5 days to resume daily physical activity such as moving the arms without difficulty, washing, driving, ect.  So The patient after breast augmentation will be examined as an outpatient basis once / twice a week, for the renewal of the dressings and the removal of the stitches, which usually takes place after 7 days. And so sports activity can be resumed after 15 days if it does not involve the arms, while at least a month must be attended for other exercises.
In all patients after breast augmentation the use of an elastic bra or other type of bra is indicated, according to medical prescription, for a month after the operation.

What is the post-surgery course?

In the post-surgery period, some pain may be felt in the pectoral region, more accentuated if the prostheses are positioned under the pectoralis major muscle, which will regress within a few days.  But We will follow the patient in our ambulatory.

Is the result definitive?

So possible complications are bleeding (the patient is brought back to the operating room to solve the problem) and the infection: and for this reason the patient undergoes antibiotic therapy, both during the intervention and on the following days, for about a week.

What are the most frequent complications?

It is advisable to contact an experienced surgeon, a specialist in plastic surgery, who can advise the best solution based on his experience and be able to deal with any post-surgery complications.
