Conservative dentistry

What is that?

conservative dentistry is a portion of restorative dentistry that deals with the care of teeth affected by carious processes.

How is caries treated?

The part of the tooth affected by the infection is removed, the remaining tooth is then disinfected and the tooth is reconstructed either through a filling or through an inlay created by a specialized laboratory, which allows to restore 100% function and anatomy. The most used materials are the latest generation composites.

What are fillings?

Fillings are reconstructions that are made directly on the patient’s mouth. They are indicated when 1-2 walls of the tooth are affected by caries. The Cappellina studio has chosen to work with the highest quality, working “under the dam”, to allow total disinfection of the filling and the absence of salivary contamination.

What is the dental dam?

The rubber dam is a latex sheet that should always be used during the creation of a filling or root canal treatment. It allows you to retract the tissues and therefore see better, protects cheeks, tongue and gums while using dental instruments. Dam is synonymous with quality

Should a filling always be done?

It is not always necessary to act and remove caries. There are the so-called initial caries, small caries that affect only the external portion of the tooth (the enamel). With good hygiene, using a toothbrush and wire correctly, and with half-yearly visits by the hygienist, they can be monitored.

Filling or inlay?

It is not always possible to restore anatomy and function with a simple composite filling. When the caries is large and the affected walls are many, even in the hands of the most expert dentist, it is not predictable to obtain a good contact point and a good anatomical shape. In large amalgam restorations, the tooth has microcracks, and only an inlay can reduce the stress of this tooth. The materials used for an inlay are: monolithic or layered composite, ceramic, Disilicate, zirconia.
