BODY SURGERY

Liposuction

Lipoaspiration (or liposuction) is the surgical procedure to remove excess of localized adipose tissue, in order to improve body profile. By means of special tubes, fat is sucked exploited by an external device with negative pressure.

Which are the areas treated?

The most frequently treated areas are hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, abdomens, ankles, arms, region under the chin.

Who is it for?

The ideal patients are normal-weight people with toned and elastic skin, who have localized fat accumulation in some areas of the body.bLipoaspiration can be performed with good results even in people who are moderately overweight, with more wide spread accumulations and with less elastic skin. Age does not have a decisive meaning in itself, even if, in older people results do not always achieve the same as obtainable as in young people, due to the reduced elasticity of the tissues.

What does the surgery technically consist of?

We usually perform this surgery at our Clinic in Dueville, 12 minutes by car fromt the city

After marking the areas to be treated with a marker, the plastic surgeon proceeds with the operation. An infiltration of a solution containing physiological solution, local anesthetic and vasoconstrictor is carried out, in order to reduce blood losses. By making small incisions adjacent to the area to be treated, the tubes of different measures are inserted, generally 3/4/5 mm which suck up the fat.

What kind of anesthesia do you use?

The choice of the type of anesthesia depends on the quantity of adipose tissue to be removed and its location: for small accumulations in areas of limited extension, the surgery can be performed under local anesthesia; moderate size accumulations localized in the lower limbs can be removed with peridural or spinal anesthesia (limited anesthesia in the lower limbs) or with local anesthesia associated with sedation; conspicuous accumulations, especially if extended to the abdomen and hips or anyway present in different body sites, require instead the association of local anesthesia and intravenous drugs (so-called sedation) or general anesthesia.

Are there scars?

The only scars are due to the access routes of the tubes, they are about 4/5 mm long and are placed in aesthetically favorable areas. The stitches are removed within 5 to 10 days depending on the areas that have been treated.

Is the result immediate?

The improvement result of the lipoaspiration on the profile of the treated part is immediately appreciable to the Surgeon already during the surgery. The subsequent swelling does not, however, make the result of the operation evaluable for one/two months after the surgery.

The final result is fully appreciable six monhs after the surgery.

There may be an alteration in the sensitivity of the skin in the treated areas, which spontaneously regresses over the course of a few months.

What is the postoperative course?

The patient wakes up with an elastic compression sheath, and with compressive dressings. Subsequently, the sheath must be maintained for a period varying from 30/40 days, in order to better guide healing and minimize swelling. The rest period to be observed after surgery depends on the quantity of the tissue aspirated, on the extension and on the site of the treated areas and varies from one to seven days.
