BODY SURGERY
Brachioplasty
With age, due to the laxity of the ligamentous and fascial structures, or for important weight loss, the region of the arms can experience subsidence. Brachioplasty, or lifting of the arms, is the intervention that allows to correct the skin laxity located at the level of the arms, considerably improving this anatomical region.
Who is this type of intervention aimed at?
Brachioplasty is aimed at patients, male and female, with loss of elasticity in the internal region of the arms, due to constitutive laxity or following important weight loss.
What does the visit consist of?
The visit is an important moment to evaluate which is the most suitable type of intervention for the patient: some cases, with good skin elasticity, require brachioplasty, to recreate the tension and the original shape of the arm.
What type of anesthesia is planned?
The brachioplasty intervention, depending on the case, can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia. The visit of the anesthesiologist colleague is fundamental, who will decide on the most suitable choice based on the local and general conditions of the patient.

Are the scars visible?
Several techniques have been proposed for brachiolasty that produce scars depending on the technique at the level of the brachial sulcus, posterior, below the bracial sulcus. We prefer the technique that involves a scar at a slightly lower level than the brachial sulcus. To highlight the brachial sulcus, imagine a line that runs from the external fold of the elbow to the center of the armpit: this defines the brachial sulcus, in fact.
The scar is initially a slightly red fibrous cord, over time it matures and under normal conditions it becomes thin and imperceptible, almost like a stretch mark.
How long does the intervention last?
The surgery, which can be performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation, lasts about two hours.
Since our team consists of two plastic surgeons, the brachioplasty intervention allows us to operate simultaneously, both in the operating room, each operator per arm, allowing to reduce the operating time considerably decreases. Sometimes a refinement with lipoaspiration may be necessary, slightly lengthening the operating time.
What is the post-operative?
Recovery after surgery is fast. If the operation is performed under general anesthesia, one night of hospitalization is scheduled. If the intervention is performed in sedation, the Day Surgery regime may be proposed, with discharge on the evening of the intervention. The return to daily activities takes place in about 4/5 days.
The patient must pay particular attention to avoiding physical exertion, such as lifting weights with his arms, to avoid the risk of bleeding and trauma.
The stitches are removed after about 10/15 days.
